Thornton Place Employee Profile - Meet Paula
Thornton Place has a dedicated team of professionals (and just all-around great folks) that are key to an amazing residential experience. Who's responsible for this on-site well-oiled machine? Well...Property Manager Paula Liu! We caught up with Paula to learn everything from her day-to-day duties to her favorite flicks!
Paula Liu, Property Manager
How long have you lived in Seattle?
8 yrs.
What is your primary role at Thornton Place?
I manage the property...since I cannot do it alone, I make sure everybody helps me! Russ, the maintenance manager and his staff, Aleisha, the leasing manager and her dynamic leasing team and of course, the office admin staff: Vicki, our accountant and Priscilla, my assistant. I see myself as a contact for Thornton Place. If there is an issue I can usually resolve it...or at least I know who to call!
What is your favorite thing about the property?
The creek, the mews and the behind the scenes story. I am very proud of the determination and hard work that it took to get all the partners to agree to get this project up and running. This project is complex and one of a kind!
What is your most frequently asked question from residents?
Where are my movie tickets? ;) They also ask me when the next restaurant will open. (Soon!!)
What is your favorite lunch spot in the Northgate area?
I tend to eat at my desk. However, when I can escape my favorite place to lunch these days is the Jewel Box Cafe because of the paninis, great tomato soup, bubble tea and...the fact that after living in Europe for many years, I am a sucker for cafe ambiance and food. I think Jewel Box Cafe has done an outstanding job on the interior...just love it! I also just found a cool new restaurant at Aljoya, our neighbor.
What is your favorite movie?
Matrix #1 - I find something new everytime I watch it.
What is your favorite way to spend a fall Saturday in Seattle? (When you’re not working!)
Make pancake breakfast for my family, go to my dance class at the neighborhood gym, go to the public library and spend a LONG long time looking for books for all of us and treat the kids to doughnuts afterwards.

Sushi is coming to Thornton Place!
Sushi Tengu is coming! And soon!
But what is Tengu? Well, we asked the Wiki-gods and here's what they had to say:
Tengu (天狗, "heavenly dogs") are a class of supernatural creatures found in Japanese folklore, art, theater, and literature.
Although we like the idea of some little "God of Mischief," at Thornton Place we have a different definition. To us it means tasty and fun food right in the Thornton Place plaza!
November 1st, Tengu Japanese will bring the exceptionally-popular conveyor-belt style sushi to Northgate, with fresh flavors and a steady stream of delectable sushi running past each table. Tengu’s quick and easy “self” service will be a pre or post movie noshing hotspot.

Thai Fusion Bistro - Compliments to the Chef
This past month, Thornton Place welcomed some spice to the Plaza. Thai Fusion Bistro is open and the flavors are flowing! We sat down with owner and chef Anak Urwannachotima to get the details on everything from his style of cooking to his tastiest dishes.
Tell us a bit about Thai Fusion Bistro!
I started cooking Thai cuisine in Seattle's Thai restaurants. I love cooking so I always created many exotic Thai dishes that can't be found in a typical Thai restaurant. However, because I was not an owner of a restaurant I was not able to share my creations with the customers. That desire to share my creations led me to open my first restaurant in Tacoma, WA.
Why did you choose Thornton Place?
Thornton Place is adjacent to the busiest transit center and combined with Regal Cinema's Stadium 14 & IMAX, dense residential population, nearly 3,000 employees close by and the property's beautiful amenities led me share my cooking skills with Thornton Place!
What is your favorite item on the menu?
You have to try our adventurous dishes! My favorite item is the Thai Fusion Pasta. It's stir-fried pasta with vegetables, tomato sauce and a touch of butter...sprinkled with grated parmesan cheese. YUM!
Where did you first learn to make Thai cuisine?
I first learned to cook Thai cuisine when I was working for several Thai restaurants here in Seattle. While working, I quickly learned how and where to pick the freshest ingredients for my customers. I always make sure that the ingredients are fresh as they make the greatest dishes.
What do you love about owning a restaurant?
I love cooking and I'm always happy when people enjoy the food I make. I also love to create new dishes for people to try!
